I remember planning out lessons to go visit the middle school. A small group of us had planned to do so. The initial plan was to go to Humble Middle School. I'd talked to the director at the time and even planned out the days of the week that I could help. The day of, I went only to find two clarinet players in the backroom practicing on their own. When i looked for the director she wasn't there. I introduced myself to these players and met their first chair, Amber. I helped with what i could on their region music. Later on the director got there and i spoke with her to find out she hadn't gotten the lessons approved with the principal and that they wouldn't be able to happen. Afterward the idea lost its fuel and we never initiated another plan. While this was somewhat of a fail, in the end i got to meet Amber, who is now in the HHS band. When she got here i recognized her and we quickly became pretty close. I try to impart all my knowledge of how to calm down, how to learn and practice better, and how to fix problems when things go wrong in the stands on the field and at practice. In the end i got to give her personal lessons anyways. She knows to come to me when she needs help. I got to teach the unteachable fish, how to countermarch.
In the end i got to give her something of personal lessons anyways.
Learning Outcome #7 is stated as: Considered the ethical implications of their actions. I realized that forcing the situation upon the director would not be effective, especially with a director unwilling to cooporate and let the situation drop.
Learning Outcome #3 is stated as: Planned and initiated activities. While it didn't work out , each potential lesson per instrumentation was planned out individually per instrument. Attempts to initiate the activity didn't go over well but were attempted.
Learning Outcome #2 is stated as “Undertake new challenges.” It was a challenge to me personally because i've never had to control and give lessons to a group, or individual and was something i was going to have to work at.
